Excel Federal Credit Union Scholarship Program

The scholarship application is posted on the website in early February and applications are due in early May. Please click on this scholarship application link for specific deadlines. The winners are announced by late June.

To minimize any potential bias, a third-party is used in the application review process and the names of the applicants are not included when submitting the applications to the judges. The judge’s scores are averaged to determine the top three candidates. All decisions are final.

If you will be attending a two-year or four year college or technical school in the fall, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and are working towards your first degree, you are eligible to apply.

Below are some of the factors that are taken into consideration when selecting the winning candidates, such as:

  • whether the applicant answered the essay question specifically
  • how much effort was put into answering the essay (i.e. short essays may not receive as many points as those that are closer to, but not over, 500 words)
  • does the applicant volunteer in their school or community
  • how many misspelled words or grammatical errors were made in the essay
  • was the application complete and were two copies of each document provided
  • what is the applicant’s interaction, and their family’s interaction, with the credit union
  • was the essay original (not just factual) and fun/interesting to read
  • did the applicant provide some examples of how a credit union is benefitting them personally or could be benefitting them personally in the near future (in addition to providing some insight into how credit unions can benefit members of their generation)
